Sometimes it Hurts – stories & resources

Sometimes it Hurts is a story series that includes six beautifully illustrated books. Each book features a child or young person who is experiencing difficult situations at home, from divorce to neglect, domestic abuse and controlling behaviour in their own emerging relationships.

The stories have been used in classroom settings in both primary and secondary schools and can be used to support learning about healthy / harmful relationships, dealing with emotions and support-seeking, or as a tool to help you navigate pastoral conversations with young people you know to be affected by the issues the stories portray. They have also been used in a social work context to support conversations with those affected by the issues explored within them and could be a valuable tool for families, enabling parents and children to process their experiences.

Our dedicated website features the stories, with animations to help bring them to life and the option of having them read to you by the writer. It is also features a series of activities to support pastoral work with young people, all accessible Pay As You Feel.
